Quest for Glory V [5] - Dragon Fire

Quest for Glory V - Dragon Fire
"Dragon Fire" is the final game in the "Quest for Glory" series by SIERRA Entertainment. The fifth game is arguably a different Genre from the first four; which are mostly Adventure games incorporating Role-playing elements, while this one is a Role-playing game incorporating some Adventure elements The player talks to the world's inhabitants, gathering clues and items necessary to acquire in order to complete the Quests and advance the Story. Unlike all its predecessors, Dragon Fire has no separate battle screens; the action-based battles take place on the exploration screen, utilizing a simple point-and-click interface, similarly to "Diablo". The game has heavier weapon and armor management than other "Quest for Glory" games, strengthening the RPG angle.

After having survived the dangers he encountered on his previous journey, the Hero travels with the wizard Erasmus to a Greece-like country called Silmaria. Its king was recently murdered, and, according to the land's traditions, the crown will be given to the one who passes a contest known as the Rites of Rulership. The hero enters the contest, aided by Erasmus, Rakeesh, and other old friends. However, as the competition progresses, contestants are being systematically killed by an unknown assassin. All the victims are murdered near the Dragon Pillars, which keep the Dragon of Silmaria in captivity. The hero must investigate the crimes and save Silmaria from a grave danger.

INSTRUCTIONS

Download and Extract the RAR file. You wil get several Folders with Guides, an alternative Installer and Patches.
In a Folder/Directory called "ISO CDs" are, as the name hints, the CDs of the Game in ISO Format.
Follow the Installation Instructions below:

"Quest for Glory V" was released back in 1998-1999. That means that it will work perfectly on Windows 95/98.

General Instructions for WINDOWS 95/98:

Before the installation, make sure you have DirectX 6.0 or higher.
After the installation, please install Sierra's QFG5 v1.2 patch (look in the extracted Folder "Update patch v1.2").

General Instructions for WINDOWS 2000/XP or Higher:

When installing, QFG5 installation will ask you to install it from the CD. Do not install it. (Exit the QT installation). The QuickTime player that comes in the QfG-5 CD-ROM is NOT Win 2000/XP compatible.
Please download an up-to-date version that supports your OS from QuickTime's website. (http://www.apple.com/quicktime).
Alternatively

Running it on Windows 2000/XP might still not work, for some technical DLL problems.
To make it work, try as following:

Right click on the shortcut to QFG5. Choose the compatibility tab, and set compatiblity to either "Windows 95" or "Windows 98".

If you're using Windows 2000 and the compatibility tag isn't there, "google" about enabling compatiblity tab on Windows 2000, or open the Link in the last Line of this Description.
Still doesn't work? You'll need a patch. Sierra ceased to support "Quest for Glory" and all the other "Quest" series, but fortunately, "C.P. Groenveld" have written a patch on his own (look in the Folder "Windows2000-XP compatibility patch"".
Be sure to check the following steps:

Make sure your QFG5 version is patched to 1.2 with Sierra's patch. (included in the Folder "Update patch v1.2")

Make sure you have a latest QuickTime player version. (Not the one from the CD, refer the above entries)
And Install the "Win2000-XP Patch".

General Instructions for 64-Bit WINDOWS:

Open the extracted Folder "Installer for 64bit OS". Click on the File inside to Install the entire game to the hard drive for CD-less play. It also allows the game to be installed already patched on 64-bit Windows.
